
Biography

Mary was a choral scholar at Clare College, Cambridge, where she sang under John Rutter and Tim Brown. She then studied singing at the Royal College of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music where she won Contemporary Music Prize and she was awarded the National Wagner Society award. She taught at Lancaster University and at the Junior Northern College of Music before taking up a post at the Cumbria Institute of the Arts in Carlisle, where she became a singing teacher in performing arts. When the University of Cumbria was formed, she became senior lecturer in Singing and head of the Joint Honours Musical course.
She has continued to have singing training with a variety of coaches. She has completed Level one and Level two, and the advanced level Estill courses with Anne-Marie Speed. She has also studied Accent breathing and is at present attending courses and having individual voice lessons with Vocal Rehabilitation coach, Dane Chalfin. Research into singing technique is a new and exciting area and she is keen to use the most effective new ideas in her teaching.

Since 2017 she has worked as a private teacher and coach and in a number of schools and colleges. She is also working as a choral trainer. She is increasingly in demand as a vocal coach, in particular she enjoys problem solving with people with technical or vocal issues.

She has continued to develop her singing with a variety of coaches. She has completed levels, one two, and the advanced level Estill courses with Anne-Marie Speed. She has recently attended a course in alignment and airflow with Vocal Rehabilitation Coach Dane Chalfin and is attending lessons with him. Research into singing technique is a new and exciting area and she is keen to use the latest techniques in her practice.
